Executive Coach and Consultant
Ellen has been in the business of coaching and developing leaders and teams for the past twenty years as owner of The Catalano Company LLC.
She has worked primarily within the realm of the Federal Government, and has also coached mid-level and senior managers in private industry and at the University of Virginia. She is passionate about leadership and team effectiveness and is committed to furthering coaching in organizations to support change initiatives.
She is a course instructor and facilitator at The Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and Center for Organizational Performance (COP) where she facilitates teams for the executives in residence, and has designed and delivered two popular courses titled At A Crossroads? Personal and Professional Decision Making, a model for clarity and energy in self and organizations, and Coaching: A Powerful Practice for Leaders.
She specializes in embedding coaching programs to support organizational initiatives, such as: Coaching to support Performance Management at the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Budget; Coaching Through an Action Research Project Group at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel; Growing Inner Intelligence, a program for women leaders at the University of Virginia and for the Women’s Initiative at Grant Thornton International, which was a six-month integration of workshops and individual coaching for senior level women accountants.
Other clients include the US Agency for International Development, The World Bank, The Pension Benefits Guarantee Corporation and the NOAA Leadership Development Program. At USAID she has recently designed and facilitated team building and strategic planning retreats for the Missions in Peru and Nicaragua.
Ellen has a Professional Certified Coach credential from the International Coaching Federation, a designation earned after numerous hours and experience as a coach. She earned her original coaching certification as a Certified ProfessionalCo-Active Coach from The Coaches Training Institute, and her Master's Degree in Applied Behavioral Science from The Leadership Institute of Spokane, WA. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language and Literature: Duke University, Magna Cum Laude.
Her accomplishments include certification in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Steps I and II, and the Assessment Suite from the Center for Creative Leadership (Executive Dimensions, Benchmarks, Prospector and 360 By Design).
Ellen was invited by the Coaches Training Institute in 2008 to be a Quest Coach, one of ten positions awarded nationally.
When not working, Ellen enjoys traveling in Latin America, swimming, and living with her husband in Charlottesville, Virginia.
